Innovative Technology at Texas Oral Surgery Specialists

At Texas Oral Surgery Specialists in Colleyville, TX, Dr. Chris L. Tye, MD, DDS, and our team of professionals stay current with the latest technologies and techniques. By investing in advanced diagnostic tools, we can provide the absolute best in patient care.

3-D Imaging for a More Accurate Diagnosis

We have a state-of-the-art digital imaging suite in our facility. We use a cone beam 3-D system for the diagnosis of cranio-maxillofacial anatomy. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is an advanced imaging technology that provides three-dimensional images of the oral and maxillofacial region, allowing for detailed visualization of the mouth, jaw, sinuses, and related structures. CBCT is a specialized form of CT that is widely used in dental and maxillofacial imaging for its ability to deliver high-resolution images with lower radiation exposure compared to conventional CT. This technology is classified as a medical device and is regulated for safety and effectiveness in clinical applications.

This allows us to create high-quality, anatomically correct image reconstructions of the jaws. The three-dimensional imaging capability of CBCT benefits the surgeon’s ability to visualize important stuctures such as jaw bone, sinuses, nerves, and TMJ joints.

Using this information, Dr. Tye can complete a detailed analysis of bone structure and tooth orientation to plan implant treatment and placement. With the use of this innovative software, he can also plan your surgery, placing virtual implants on the image. Therefore, Dr. Tye will already know what type and size of implant he is going to place before you even arrive for surgery. With expanded views, we can further evaluate other portions of the face and skull, including the temporomandibular joint.

In addition to improving the accuracy of diagnosis, our cone beam unit emits 90 percent less radiation than traditional x-ray units. Compared to conventional CT scans and CT exams, dental cone beam CT offers significant benefits in terms of reduced radiation exposure and improved image quality for bony structures. Therefore, our diagnostic tools provide more precise imaging with much less exposure for our patients. At Texas Oral Surgery Specialists, patient safety has always been our top priority.

Our CBCT systems, dental CBCT systems, and other devices such as intra-oral scanners and imaging equipment are essential medical devices in modern dental practice, meeting regulatory standards for safety and performance. The procedure and examination process for CBCT scans is efficient and comfortable, allowing for a streamlined workflow and positive patient experience. The data captured during scans is critical for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning.

Many doctors refer patients out to another facility for advanced imaging. We are thrilled to be able to provide this service in our own facility. By doing so, our patients can receive time-efficient care that fits into their busy schedules, saving time for both patients and the referring physician.

Medit Intraoral Scanner

The Medit Scanner is a revolutionary method for obtaining intraoral impressions. This handheld device is used for intraoral scanning in modern dental practice, allowing clinicians and professionals to capture precise digital impressions directly from the patient’s mouth without the need for goopy impressions. Digital impressions offer greater comfort and an improved patient experience compared to traditional impressions, as they are less invasive and reduce gag reflex, making the process more pleasant for patients.

Once the fast and simple digital impression is complete, the images will be immediately visible on our computer screen. Intraoral scanners utilize advanced sensors, a light source to illuminate the teeth and gums, and often feature wireless technology for enhanced ergonomics and hygiene. The scanning software processes the data captured during scanning to reconstruct accurate 3D models, which are essential for diagnosis and treatment planning. Dr. Tye can then send these digital files to dental labs and referring doctors to aid in treatment planning and the fabrication of dental appliances, such as crowns and bridges. The benefits of intraoral scanners for dentists, clinicians, and professionals include improved workflow efficiency, accuracy, and overall treatment quality. Intraoral scanning and digital dentistry play a key role in advancing patient care and clinical workflows. Digital scans also support patient education by visually demonstrating treatment needs, helping patients understand their condition and options.
